Odebound

The night you arrived, the old spire lit the sky. Nobody in the croft says the two are connected.

Raise a dragon. Cultivate power. Rebuild the machines of a fallen civilisation.

The world

The roads were here before you

Three peoples live in what the ancients left standing. The Hearthfolk farm, and keep well clear of the ruins. The Reclaimers quarry those same ruins for parts. Their towns, bastions and outposts are joined by one network of roads, with bridges, tunnels and signposts, and every world grows all of it from a single seed.

Follow a road and it ends at a gate. Leave it and you are on your own.

Forest, desert, ice sheet, high peaks, deep caves, open sea.

What they left

Somebody built all this, and then stopped

The monoliths still stand. The plans for the machines that raised them are still out there, in pieces. You begin with a stone axe and a campfire. Copper comes next, then iron, then windmills, water wheels and wire.

Then there is the essence. It glows in the rock, and it changes whoever holds it. The Hearthfolk gave you your first piece as thanks, along with a hearth to carry.

Four tiers of machines. Ten ranks of the Resonant Arts. One Hearth, which is yours.

Dragons and mounts

Some things can be won over

A horse will throw you the first time. So will a bison, an elephant and a bear. Feed it, stay on, and it is yours: a name, a saddle, and it comes when you whistle.

Dragons are another matter. They nest in the high peaks on hoards they do not share. What you carry down from a lair takes a long time to hatch.

Twenty-five animals to gentle. Lairs you can see from the valley.

Two dragons flying low over the road to a bastion

What stands in the way

Three of them are on your road

A goblin warchief has the key. A warden waits at the spire's crown, behind a shield you will have to break. And under the Root, where the lift goes down, something large has made a nest.

Thirteen more keep to their own ground, and each one gives you a reason to go looking. Bring friends if you like. Your world opens to them over LAN or Steam.

Sixteen bosses. Every first kill leaves you stronger for good.

Roadmap

Free, and the world stays yours

Odebound opens free in Early Access as version 0.1. Each update after it opens the next stretch of the climb, and a world you start on the first day carries into all of them.

  1. 0.1
    Launch · November 2026

    The croft to the Root

Stone, copper, iron and power. Towns, trade, mounts and a glider. For now, the road ends at the Broodmother.

  2. 0.2
    Next

    The Concord

The third people, who can read the rune bands. Oil, steel and titanium. A saddle that fits a dragon. Something burning further down.

  3. 0.3
    After that

    What the ancients kept

Their own tools. Flight. The monoliths as doors. The oldest dragon.

Further out: weather, enchanting, goblin raids, faction standing, conveyors and logic. Planned, and not yet promised.
